Just wanted to share one of my favorite photos of mine. It took me 4 hours of trying to get this particular shot.

Equipment used:

20D, 300 f4 IS + 500D, 550 ex @ -3 compensation.

I tried to do a similar shot last week and after 2 hours I gave up. I guess I should have stuck with it a couple more hours. :-)

Weird coincidence :-)

I actually got about 5 in focus shots of this guy during the 4 hours, but I love the sunlight forest background on this one, as compared to the other ones which had shade, making them very dark. You should do out and try it again.. They key (for me anyways) is to set the focus distance to the optimum position to get the fly the right size in the frame, then focus by moving closer. If you can find him in the viewfinder, as you get closer he will come more into focus, just before he comes into focus, fire off a burst and hope you get something.
