I didn't have anything special to share today so I did this studio shot to post.

I used a 36"x36" softbox with louvers to the left of the subject for key light, large umbrella about 10' above the lens and intended to have a subtle hair light, but went a bit too subtle. :-)

Comments and critiques are welcome.

Nice photo good pose. A very minor point would be I would probably have preferred a bit more shadow to the left handside of the face.

Hello Rodney,

Perfect pose...Great photo..

A very small question though...why does the guy have a pose...Like "don't mess around with me"...Am I the only one to think that.

Probably that look was on purpose..?

I dunno...I always have a look in mind for everyone and that is what I run with. For this shot I was after something that is less likely what a parent would like to see and more in line with what the subject would like.

Here is the color version with a different print ratio.

Thanks for the comments.

Rodney,

beautiful pose... the attention to detail really makes this picture.. thanks for sharing this.. i am really learning alot (i hope) from examing how you have everything placed, i.e. hand placement, pointing the feet, etc.. from this and all of your portraits... really like the black and white version of this one...

regards, dustin
