This is my daughter, taking some time to Stop and Smell the roses. This was my first serious attempt at making something with Photoshop. It was taken with a DRebel with the kit lens.

Give me you best shot, I can take it.

Dave Porter

Oh yea, I already know that I should have removed the other people in the back ground. Working that one now. :-)

Hi Dave,

This does not work for me. The main attractions here are the red roses. If it were my daughter, I'd not want her playing "second fiddle" to anything else in the scene.

Thanks for sharing.

this is gorgeous!

i'm with rodney though...at the moment, the roses grab the attention...i think you should lower the saturation of them a bit, and add color to your daughter too!

also..a crop just behind her would put her off center a bit..

very nice idea :-D

i agree that a crop behind her and leaving her in color would do a lot for this picture.. great idea though, its an interesting shot, just the interesting part is not your daughter... keep experimenting.. :-)

I dunno... in this case, I wouldn't worry about the people in the back of the shot. In a way, they look like the statues... The use of colours against the toned image gives the whole shot a kind of "Alice in Wonderland" kind of feel.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the reds a little too much, though.

That being said, I like the look and feel of this shot. I'd like to see the final version when you've got it all together.

Ok, I'll be the odd one here. I'd rather see more cropped from the front of her.

I love the idea, very nicely done. I would also crop in front of her and I would lower the saturation on the roses to make them look just barely colored (like 10% or so)...like old graphic novels often did.

Maybe like this crude attempt in PS

I agree; a front crop would bring her more to our attention. She seems a little overwhelmed in the composition, but I do like the concept.

Hi David.

I think you have a great shot I really like the contrast of the roses withthe backgroundand your daughter is in the perfect pose. The only thing I would do is remove the people in the background but you are probably sick of people say that.

Great shot well done.

How would it look if just the girl and the one rose she is smelling were coloured?
