I took this picture wanting to get the water in focus but ended up getting the rock to the side. Would there be a better way to shoot this or is it good as is?

With a longer exposure, your camera would have a hard time focusing on the actual moving water. Also, the rock in focus emphasizes the blur of the water.

try an exposure of 1 sec or 3 sec. and you wil have "the silky water"

i tried with a 1 sec exposure but the picture came out waaaaay over exposed. What would I use to block out the sun a little with longer exposures?

The handy ND(Neutral Density) filter was designed for this sort of app. That is if you can use filters. Otherwise I suppose in a pinch you could use a pair of grey sunglasses.

I have a Sony W1, i'd have to get a lens adapter, but I don't think that would be too big a deal

thanks for the info

What camera do you use? try to make an exposure compensation of 2 stops down and set the apature for 1 sec. then. You have to compensate for the ekstra light.
