Had a thunderstorm last night and I tried taking lightning pictures. Tried shooting for about an hour and this is the best I got. Any opinions or recommendations?

I know I'm a week late chiming in.. but that is an awesome shot. The color is way too cool.. and the visuals.. it almost looks like two hands around a bowl from which the lightening is shooting out at us. .and.. the most I've had is coffee:blah:.

Great shot. I am now amped to 'do' lightening.. and I don't get much where I live... thanks for the shot and the inspiration ...

Thanks guys I did get very lucky. That was the first time I ever really tried and it's not easy since as you know...lightnings are pretty fast. That particular one was a series and I actually had started clicking a little earlier. I have a Canon EOS 20D so the 5 frames per second really came in handy.

you could also just aim the camera towards the storm and do a 30 second exposure to catch whatever lightning may occur. I'd think taking 5 frames per second trying to get it would be pretty hard.
