of the two, i prefer the composition on the 2nd shot... it is however too soft.. and possibly ablack n white conversion couldbe used effectively here..

Agree with Dustin and...

I'd say it's worth thinking about the lighting too, it seems harsh and is coming from directly overhead?

The eyes are in shadow and there is very little catchlight. The harsh lighting is also possibly making the baby squint a bit.

I'm not generally that keen on very tight crops of babies' faces either; tight crops work better for me when a face is "interesting", but babies should generally be "cute" rather than "interesting".
