I tried to use the rule of thirds while cropping this photo taken on the salt plains in southern Tunisia. I think I've cropped a bit too close to the figure on the right but I've tried leaving a bit more space and it seems to me to have less impact.

I cropped this using Photoshop and adjusted the colour balance for highlights (red) and shadows (slightly 'blueing' them).

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Quite a bit - this is the original. I'm trying to feel my way into digital so any advice would be appreciated...

i actually prefer the original version.. its sharper and i find the composition to be more pleasing.. the first was a little too tight.. the soft colors look good..

I'm still a novice at this but for what it's worth, I much prefer the original - seems tobe more balancedall round with less "tunnel vision" if that makes sense.

Cheers Steve. My wife's South African and my brother-in-lives down the road so they're already telling me how the southern hemisphere's going to triumph (that's all I've had to listen to over the last week!).

The kiwis play the welsh today as well. That should be an interesting game.

Also see the Aussies are playing the French - will be watching the Welsh/All Black game. Think the Welsh could give the kiwis a hard time.

Couldn't get any Exif info from your photo - what camera are you using? This forum is great for advice and direction - Dustin is especially helpful and can always be relied on for honest and sound opinion! Keep posting.

Well the Kiwis ran riot at the weekend - doesn't bode well for us!

The camera on the above photo was a Canon Powershot A75, but that didn't make it back in one piece from the holiday. I'm getting a Panasonic FZ5 soon.
