Hi,

I get a nice sense of the movement of the surf. Its not frozen or too blurred.

This does not say "sunset" to me. At this size, it doesn't really say "surfing" either because of the angle, lighting, and position of the figure. Instead, to me, it conveys the idea of vastness and solitude. I'll bet renaming it to something like "Alone at Sea" would change the way the photograph works.

I'm sure more skilled forum members will be able to give you technical advice.

the silhouetting surfer is a good idea!.. but i think you are just too far away.. if you could make him a bit larger in the frame.. keep him off-center like you have him.. and then maybe have him the only element in the scene besides the ocean.. that would convey the feeling a little better i think.. i am not sure i explained that well, but i swear i have an image of what i want in my head..

CC....
I have been shooting surfers for about 5 yrs now and after 3yrs of basiclly learning I managed to get about a dozen shots in surfing magizines...Its not the easiest sport to photograph because you have to antisipate what the surfer is going to do next...If your shot was to show surfing, you need to bring the surfer in tight...I will attach a couple to show you my close up and not so close up...If you wanted scenery with a distant surfer, you got that...You also need a good zoom or long fixed focal lens...I use the 70-200mm 2.8 Canon with a 2x converter on it...That gives me over 500mm and that is plenty for the surf conditions on the east coast and probably the west coast...Get a big zoom if your into the sport and enjoy the other scenery down at the beach...
