nice edit dustin. the original definitely didn't have enough contrast or sharpness. great photo just needed that post processing step. good one julie!

thanks for the comments guys.* it's been interesting making the transition from film to digital, a lot of similarities more differences. i like the edit dustin but i feel that some of the smoothness is gone.* when i edit i usually try all different things, boost saturation, lower saturation, curves, levels, contrast. i end up saving 4 versions of an image, usually try to match what was "real".* what i have to learn is what is over processed, sometimes i'm afraid to do too much, it will look too photoshopped. that and how the end result may look on other monitors. i checked in here the other day from my son's computer and all my photos looked too blue and contrasty, his computer is old but it made me paranoid anyway, LOL. enough of my ranting- thanks again!

you can do a much better job sharpening it with a full-size image.. its difficult to sharpen a small low-rez image such as the edit i did..

if you want to retain some smoothness during sharpening, just bump up your threshold a bit.. to say 2-3ish.. (this works better in full-size images)

i sharpened and did a little levels tweak...this is uncropped, the one i posted originally was a little bit cropped already, this is the whole thing, i liked dustin's crop but since that was already here i figured i'd post the whole thing as something different.

Julies, nice work. I like the last one. I do like your critical appreciation. You have a critical eye that is dynamic and I suppose that is what makes one to improve. A case in point is that after Master Dustin made certain suggestions to the flower, you were still able to see the imperfections (absence of smoothness) and Dustin agrees.

I am not posting because I busy writing my dissertation, but I take time to read and learn from your experiences.

Kind regards.
