Here's a picture of my cat. He's the cutest thing, has two different color eyes, but they do NOT look like this when you just look at him..... only in pictures! Imagine my surprise when I took the pic and reviewed it!!! One eye normally is a golden color with kind of a crescent pupil and the other is kind of greenish with a more round pupil. But never did I expect to see something like this which makes me think he might be blind in his left eye and who knows what's going on with the right one. Time to go to the vet!
Anyone ever seen anything like this? It's no technique I'm using... comes out like this all the time.
Any ideas?

Sharp, good composition, lighting and colours. Cute, but those eyes.

the green color you see is the tapetum, which is a reflective surface under the iris in nocturnal animals.. it basically allows them to better use the dim light at night.. other animals with this include dogs, deer, raccoons, etc..

"Green eye" is the animal equivalent to the red eye effect in human eyes, caused by flash.

Thanks for that Dustin, I've been wondering about "greeneye" for a while and never got around to investigating why it is green and not red.

You are a man of many talents

It looks like your cat has a cateract in its left eye . Not something that you can do anything about and your cat will be able to see just fine.

One of my old dogs had them in both eyes and got around just fine.

Okay, I understand about the green. But what about that other eye. It looks like an abstract happening in his right eye, like a fractal or something. I've never seen anything like that. Usually both eyes come out green when you take pics of animals, but in this guy's -- I mean cat's case, his right eye is always like that.
Just wondering if anyone ever saw anything like that right eye.

Thanks for all the comments so far. This truly is a great forum!!

gina.. i don't really know whats going on in the right eye.. if i were to guess which eye might be blind it would be that one since it appears the pupil is unformed or there is some blood leakage into the eye or something.. do you have any other angles that show both eyes?
