The Pier was closed off yesterday for safety. The waves were quite large.

Anysuggestions for improvement greatly appreciated. I was shooting almost directly into the sun withlight to moderatecloud cover. The lighting was on the gloomy side. With the blowing sand and surf, I kept my polarizing filter on to protect the lens, (I didn't have any other fliters with me.) After a few adjustments in PS to boost contrast, this is my final result. All comments welcome! :-)

Thomas.

overall i rather like this shot...

its a good composition with the pier coming out of the corner and leading into the distance... you captured the power of the ocean well with the waves crashing in..

i think this would look good in black and white.. you could increase contrast a bit more in black and white as it gets a bit washed out in places right now.. also, i think if you would have left a little more room on the right hand side of the frame it would balance better.. and its maybe a bit bare in the foreground..

but as i said, i like it..

Thanks Dustin!

I will definitely give the B&W conversion a shot with boosted contrast. Thanks for the critique, your insights are always most helpful.

I don't know.

The angle isn't quite right to me.

Maybe if the horizon was at the vertical halfway mark or something.

It looks like a very good photo but not a great one.

I'm sure if you shopped around slightly for more angles you could have come up with a better photo.

How many shots/attemps did you make?

Yeah I think a higher perspective might work better but thats not really an option unless you get farther back and zoom in.

In addition the weather was really against you. The light is not good. The shot would be very powerful with good day light.

Thanks you for all the comments!

Scot: 15 years in California and I still haven't learned to surf. I think I will wait until the waves are a bit smaller. :-)

Terry: I took adozen or so shots from different angles. I will try and post a couple morelater. I may have a couple others with better compositions.

Widowmaker: Unfortunately,I didn't bring any of my longer lenses. efs17-85 was the longest I had. I will try a few from a higher perspective nexttime I am out there.

Aumma45: I was hoping so much for good light. Last time I was there a few weeks ago, the lighting was fantastic, but the waves were flat!Maybe next time!

Thanks again!

Thomas.
