I think what makes the picture is the fact that it isn't cigarettes or something like that. My first thought was that it lookedexactly likea journalistic shot of someone anonymous feeding their addiction. Aspartame aside, the fact that it was Coke gives it it's tension/juxtaposition. (That and the fact that it is my addiction. I suddenly feel a bit like I should be wearing shades/be more anonymouswhen I make my score.)

Oh I know you were. It would be a cool shot with them though.

Mike,

You know that if you posta great picture, I let you know. I've even PM'ed you on
such matters.

You can ignore what I said in my earlier post and take meaningless pictures of just
stuff, or you can put some thought into a picture with real meaning.

Wouldn't it be cool when somebody looked at your picture and said to themselves.
"That dude is saying something."

You can do this. It's a lot more work and thought then snapping a picture of your
dad picking up some Cokes. But you have the skills ready. Effort, thought and
planning could give you a REAL PJ picture. If that what you want then do it.

since this is the critique section.

fiirst of all the exposure is alright BUT the composition is off. you should at least tell a story with your picture. you say thats your dad? where? perhaps you should show his face. his reaction as he is getting the coke.

read up on "rules of thirds" remember its a rule but NOT set in stone.

when you shoot. think about what you are tryig to say. just snapping and posting doesn't do much if it doesn't convey a message.

good effort though. i hope to see more as you progress.

Berto, perhaps introduces not entirely a new thing but one that calls for thought. Tell a story. I am not sure this that is because as I have come to know a lot of folks here are still struggling with getting the basic technicalities right. I suppose when this begins to be easy, then the second level of telling the story begins to be part of ones shots..

Thanks

Jaki.

i think it tells a story.. it may not be an epic story.. more of an everyday story.. but i think the inclusion of the face would have helped here though...

thanks dustin. i actually like the face being blurred because i feel it adds to the newpaper appeal of the photo in portraying the "average joe" because the person can't be identified. i have heard the rule of thirds and i think i'm going to eat the wrong end of a 12 gauge if i hear it again. thanks again everyone.

the blur of the face i like.. but maybe if it weren't chopped off halfway.. so we see the whole blurred face? i don't know, it may not be any better.. just throwing things out there..

what? rule of 1/3rds? can someone please explain? have i been missing something? hehe..
