No post processing, cropping, etc.

Camera: Canon Digital Rebel XT w/75-300mm 4-5.6 lens. I set the camera on the wooden railing of the Seal Beach pier to keep it as stable as i could. Too much wind for my crappy tripod which has a stripped fastener. I ordered this one yesterday... is it another POS or will it serve its purpose? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

Shooting mode: Program AE

Shutter Speed: 1/200

Aperture Value: 5.6

Exposure Compensation: 0

ISO Speed: 200

Focal Length: 105.0mm

White Balance: Auto

I've got a bunch of cool shots like this. I took about 50 shots over a period of about 45 minutes starting before the sun setting till just after dark.

Nice shot.

I think that the top and bottom elements don't add much, and cropping leaves a nice panoramic feel to the shot.

I would also clone out the distracting mast on the horizon.

Apart from that a contrast boost to make the boat appear more in silhouette and a slight saturation boost too to really emphasise the sky.

Bit of sharpening too.

I think it's a winner. Definitely worth a print.

Im not a fan of the new crop peri, too much off the bottom I think. It takes away the sense that its water, along with totally blackening the water with the contrast boost.

This is a real nice shot you have andrew.

Beautiful colours but lacking a subject for me, If the only 'point/subject' of the photo is the sunset then for me it needs to be an outstanding sunset to me this seems like a "nice" sunset.

Looking at it again now I think it may be down to the clouds? no real shape or substanc to them.

As for boring clouds... welcome to southern california. And to be honest, most of that is smog.... not actual clouds.

Here are a few more I took that evening.

I really like the colours you've got in no. 2 of the second post. I'd crop off those balconies to the left, though, and just leave the pier in. Maybe also get rid of that figure I can just make out and sharpen it up a bit.

Great shot, though.

Hmm.... IIRC i shot almost all my photos that night at ISO200.

.... i just checked the RAW images and the birds were shot at ISO200. Some of the others were done at 400. Only a couple of the very early shots were done at 100.
