Attached is the original and 2 crops, one tighter than the other. Any ideas about the crops - which one is better? Would you do it differently?

I think the original is too busy, and lacks a focus. I just couldn't get any closer without scaring them all away!

The tighter crop also has a slight saturation boost and some USM. I think the other crop has some USM as well.

Of course, other critiques and comments about the image are also appreciated - I'm always looking to improve.

Best wishes,

-Ben

I prefer crop #2. IMO, the birds are close enough to see some details. My only problem is the DOF - the bird in the background is OOF. I'd like to see greater depth of field so that all of the birds are in focus. Also, since the landscape is an important part of the scene, I think greater DOF would suit the image better. Shallow DOF is nice for really close-up portraits, etc. This doesn't fit into that category.
