I feel that this is a pretty good shot for me. I've had my camera since this past Christmas, and am stilllearning. How does this shot come across?

Welcome Silver - Nice subject and colours.

Unfortunately, it looks to me that you have focused on the branch just behind the bird andthus the bird's head is slightly out of focus (being in the forground of your point of focus). Also find it just a little too busy in terms of the surrounding branches and twigs which detract from the subject.

Just my personal opinion which is what this forum isabout. Keep posting - quite intimidating initially but you'll soon feel right at home. One word of advice - keep this image as your first post and then look back on it in a few months time. You'll see immediately just how much you will have picked up and improved on in a short space of time.

agreed . it was a great shot with vibrant color. yet focusing seemed to be misplaced.

The others have said what needs to be said technically. I just want to say welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing more of your photos.

Thanks all for the comments, and the welcome. From the exif that is in the photo, exactly what changes would I have needed to make in this shot to correct the dof? I am thinking thatthe focus may be off becauseof me shooting handheld rather than tripod, he kept moving around every time I would get set up, so I am thinking that will take care of the focus, but Im pretty much lost in the dof portion to correct my shot, Thanks.

Welcome, 05 silver allez

If you have a prefocus lock feature that "previews" your shot, you would know if you locked on your subject or something near it.

May I ask which digcam you own?

I love the vibrant colors in your subject!

It's a Kodak Z740, and I dont think it has that feature on it, anyway I havent noticed it. Thanks for your nice comment on the colors.

welcome, The colours in this picture is very clear and it is a good picture for only having a camera since December, but as said the Depth of field needs a bit of work and be careful while focussing, Another thing is the branches in the front, being out of focus, and all is a bit distacting, but overall, good job. Keep shooting, and have some fun.

nice exposure

but as has been said you missed the focus on this one. also, shooting up at that great of angle is not as appealing as if you were closer to eye level with the bird.

but hey, you've only had it since xmas, plenty of time to work out the details.
