Morning everyone.

On this site http://public.fotki.com/JohnReid/temp_compo_folder/I have place a few photos. I need to choose 8 to send to a compo which will be judged on Monday. The challenge for you is to choose the best 8 and rank them in order. I'll let you know what the results were on Tuesday.

Cheers

According to the order of rank I'd say: 7-8-4-2-9-1-13-5
However, I cannot be very sure, for every picture have some handicaps for my taste. For example take my winner no:7 I'd prefer it without the boat full of people which gives a touristic quality to the shot. No:8 the idea is very nice, yet the love birds remain somewhat insignificant. And so on..But do not get me wrong, they are all beautiful and I do appreciate your will power.
Good Luck!

8 - 4 - 2 - 1

The others don't really grab me I'm afraid, so not sure.

IMHO 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11 (Was the player really catching the ball? It looked more like a pass from the picture - just curious).

Hi Everyone, thanks so much for your opinions and suggestions.

LT - the player was passing the ball to the winger who ran off and scored a try. I was right against the touch line and too close to focus on the winger!

1 - nostly because I love eagles
7 - love the perspective of the watchers being watched
13 - beautiful colors; would have been better with a surfer on the leading edge of the wave though
10 -
4 - just like the composition of this one
9 - nice composition again
5 -

Thanks John for the answer, It is a nice action shot, you get to see his facial expressions, and you also got the ball in the picture. Good Luck in the competition, you should submit the one of you proposing and I bet that would win 1st prize everytime.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with me choosing the photos. I should have been clearer - the competition is a monthly competition held by the photography club I am a member of, so the photos do not necisarily need to be all time greats. Here are the results of the four prints(the other four were digital submissions which will get judged next month)

The Fish Eagle Flying - Certificate of Merit

The scene with the tropical plants and saturated blue sky - Gold

The cheerleader at the rugby game - Gold, but it was recommended that I blur the background more (I was using a 2.8 lens so I don't know how that would be possible unless it was a PS job)

The elephant drinking on the banks of the river - Silver, the judge said it was over exposed. Unfortunately a bright spotlight is shon on the prints and makes any bright areas blow out.

Just to explain the awards - a certificate of merit is the highest award, a gold is what you should get at least 50% of the time, a silver is when there is a problem and a bronze is a large problem.

LT - I also thought that print would do well, but it won a silver because the judges said the lightening distracted from the actual scene.
