Recently I sold my CP 8800 and bought a D70s 18-70 kit, I kept my SB600.

So here's my first attempt to shoot portrait with this gear.

I aimed the flash at the ceiling for bounce.

I tried to make a nice crop of it, what do u think of my crop?

comments please?

I do very little portrait work myself, so take that into consideration with my comment.

I really like the crop.

I think it eliminates some distractions from the background and helps us to focus on the model. I also like showing less of the flowers. Again, I think the emphasis should be on the girl. In the first photo I felt like the flowers were overpowering the girl.

Nice model and nice crop.

Personally, I would prefer higher contrast between the model and the background, to allow her outline to better stand out and her hair to be better defined. But, on the whole, it is a fine portrait.

Hi, and congratulation on your new equipment.... I'm looking to buy the same camera, but I have one big problem = Money???

How much is your Country kit of NIkon D70s, and how much SB600.

Depending what is your target you can see your photo..

1 if you are going only to have her as the spot of photo #2 is OK so you could even blur the background littlemore.

2. if you are thinking little more wider and feel the athmosphere than #1 is OK.

In both photos do a little contrast push up,and do just a little shadow improvement to seemore of dark areas but do not touch face too much.

Sorry for cutting the flowers at the edges it would be great to have them complete in frame.

Hope to see more of yr portrait with newkit.

Zak

Zak thank you for your comments, i appreciate that.

about the kit: I live in the netherlands, I paid 1099 euro for the kit, the sb 600 i bought in hongkong last year for about 120 euro's i think....i'm not sure (got some discount as i bought the cp8800, sb600 and 1gig cf card together) in stores in holland the price o the sb600 is about 250 euro's.

1 mrach i'm going to hongkong again and i'm thinkin about buying the sb800 so i can use the sb800 as the master flash and th sb600 wireless together but it depends on how much money i have left over

Thanks for information, it is not big differance.

Here I can buy kit Nikon d70s for 1025eur and SB 600 for 260 eur. Ofcourse I was trhinking into regular Nikon dealer store.

But "rumors" are everywhere that you can buy for example in France NIkon kit D70s for 750 eur plus extra lens as spare ones for the same price......:O:sad:urgh
