Been working on my shutter speeds & exposure to capture sports action (whilst trying to keep that damn ball in the shot:?)

Looks like you've got it spot on Steve - nice photos.

Booked my tickets to SA last night - Christmas in the sun for me!

Hey Frenchy, thanks - stay in touch on that trip. I presume you're going down to Maritzburg? We might well be down in that neck of the wood on a friend's dairy farm in Mooi River, around that time.

Yes, into Cape Town (desperate to go Shark Diving and do all the tourist stuff there), up to PE then to Pietermaritzburg for a fortnight. Total of 3 1/2 weeks. I'll definitely keep in touch.

Steve,

These are cool. I especially like #3 if you could get a little more of the goal into that shot, it would've been really good. Looks like you were shooting from a little bit of a higherangle, and I wonder if you could get any lower, not too much, just a little lower.

Great job! Keep 'em coming. Man I miss that game too.

thanks LT for your encouragement - I went through a phase of close up from beside the net at pool level - but after repeated drenchings (self & camera) I've taken to higher dry ground! Want to get closer though with the 9500 - we've got the Rugby season starting soon which will give me plenty opportunity for photographing good contact sport at my son's games, which I'm really looking forward to with the new cam. Great challenge because of thefast action. Many have said that the 9500 is not good for sports shots, but I disagree - just got to spend the time discovering what works.

You're welcome. I look forward to your Rugby pictures. Probably my favorite game in the world. Even beats out American Football, in my opinion. Joost vander westhuizen(spelling?) used to be the guy I try to emulate when I played.

I sometimes hang-out in the Sports and Action forum because I always enjoy the Rugby pictures posted by Frenchy in that forum.
