Was surprised that the color of the water matched that of the sky. Actually the water was a rather stained. Any idea what might have caused this condition?:?

It's a reflection of the sky.* Nice Pic, would have liked to see his shoes.

I think Afrika's right. Because you're shooting slightly down on the heron, and because the water's pretty still, the water is acting as a mirror for the sky - hence it's reflecting the colour of the sky into the lens.

Sharpness is good - you obviously got the focus spot on. Your exposure is also nice.

IMHO, the photo would be more effective if you had gotten down to the same level as the heron to photograph it. Wouldn't have had the same effect of the water looking like sky though. A slightly looser crop might help to give the bird more context in its surroundings, though if there were a bunch of ugly buildings behind it, then obviously that's not what you want to do!

Including the heron's feet, as Afrika metnioned would also have helped make what is a good photo a great photo.

Best,

-Ben

:-)Hi guys and thanks for the feedback. I shot this picture from a small bridge. Couldn't get down on his level. Can't walk on water just yet. Did get up closer for this shot. His head just about filled my view finder. By this time he moved to the other side of the bridge. Background contrast not good by sometimes you take what mother nature offers.
