Took this last night while hanging out with a friend. No fancy lighting setups, and it wasnt posed.

Any thoughts?

I like it

Seems sharp and nicely composed, especially for not being a posed photo.
One thing I might do would be to clone out the record album cover and the clutter in the bottom right so that you had a nice smooth background.

Best,

i really like this shot, but find the background kind of distracting.

the lighting and composition are quite nice and the greyscale works perfectly.

nice capture!

I like the album in the background. It is a little thought provoking. The rest of the background is unfortunate. Overall this image has a very nice feeling. I would love to see you attempt it again with a little more prep.

Yah I think that it is very creative. The B&W works well. Regards. Jaki

Great shot, very sharp and nicely framed. And just to go against every one else so far, I like the surroundings. The clutter adds to the "unposed" effect. The picture in the background tells a story about the person, making the hands more real. I also love the fact that the Guitar is being held upside down, take away the setting and the you loose not only direction, but the significance of the shadows.

I'm all for improving the art of photography, but to have meaning a picture has to covey something to the observer.

Just my humble opinion!

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I'm very grateful for them.

kenmck15: Thanks for doing a great job on the editing - i had been wondering what it would look like like that, but my attempt at doing so was pretty poor.

I do like the edited shot, but i think i prefer the original - i was trying more to capture an aspect of a person, rather than pure aesthetics. The edited shot looks great as a 'studio' shot, but I agree with kefln - the background helps tell a story, and i think the inclusion of the guitarist poster on the wall is neccessary for this.

Thanks again for all the replies!

This is a cool shot. Both work very well for the reasons stated above.
