I feel your use of out of focus is slightly distracting in this example. The two distinct areas pull me from the focal point. I'm seeing so many photographs here where objects are half in half out of focus. This is a very difficult composition technique to master. All too often resulting in poorer results.

Mike I think you might serve yourself better to simplify some of you compositions.Have a look atsome professional examples in booksor better still magazines, where many products are properly photographed for best impact. Partial out of focus is not that common.

I do realize your not trying to make a marketing shot here. Mostly its for your own enjoyment. Stillits something to think about now you have a nice light box.

thanks LBoy, i'm glad you realize i was tryin to be more artsy than commercial here, but what i'm really getting interested in now is photojournalism, an area i think you've mastered, from some of the photos i've seen. i'm shooting for a local publication now and will report back on how it goes. i'd love to hear from you and learn from your experiences.

thanks

MJ,

I am curious to know how you landed the gig, and how it turns out too, if you don't mind sharing.

i called and asked if there were any photographer positions open and they said they're always lookin for help, so i got an interview w/ the art director. showed him my portfolio on my laptop and he liked my stuff, my first shoot was yesterday, shooting 50 items (clothes, accessories, etc) for an article in an upcoming Style insert. they'll be placed throughout the article and a cover shot as well. hopefully they'll turn out all right and it'll be a good first experience. i gave them all the photos directly after the shoot, they do all the post processing, glad i don't have to worry about that. i'll let you guys know how it turns out, the article will be run in next weeks issue.
