ok took both of these at a musuem, there's a bit of blue lighting on the snake from the cage or whatever he's in i guess, hope it didn't ruin the shot. they both have a very shallow depth of field... was usin my 50mm 1.8.

which one has more potential here?

I think the second one but it needs to be cropped to get rid of the tail.

Definitely different subject material from your norm

Also a very difficult subject. Sorry...but these didn't do much for me. I have some similiar images from a visit last summer. I didn't fair any better

Mike, I really like the detail you captured in #1. Photographically speaking I know you are probably ambivalent about the blue cast from the light, but I think it makes it rather surreal. The snake looks like he's about ready to shoot a death ray from his eyes..
