Same Iris, different poses/set-up. Which do you like better? Unscientific survey...

i like the subject in both shots, but the shadows in the background in #2 is a bit

distracting.

also, the background color (at least on my moniter) makes my eyes wander for a

place to focus.

i like the shots, but think more contrast between background and subject would give

this shot a bit more punch, IMO.

Thanks Scott, I really appreciate your comments. I gotta get that black/darker background going.

I will try it out, but don't hold your breath, as it will have to be Photoshopped (still learning to use it), andI don't have those Irises anymore for a reshoot, my wife will be happy though, she'll get new flowers this weekend. Hope I can find some Irises. Thanks for your vote of confidence though Scott.

Both shots are nice, but I agree with Scot's suggestion about the background. I think the flower would stand out very nicely against a black background.

You may be able to select the background color in your editor and then just fill it with black.

I like #1 because it looks as if the iris is welcoming the viewer. #2 looks like it's shying away. I don't know about a black background for me - an "old paper" background would be nice to make appear like an old illustration.
