I used a 22"x22" softbox for the key light and large reflector for fill. I hope this type of image is still appropriate here.

Sheet music where it is seriously detracts, and hogs Cof F, also on my monitor there are one or two shadows on the left which are distracting...

Hi,

Portraits are not my strong point but I am trying to improve. I would say that the lighting looks good and the surroundings are pleasant but the pose from the model looks forced and unnatural IMO.

One other thing that I cant help thinking is the sheet music looks like maybe a thought bubble or speech bubble as it is pretty close to the guys head - maybe put a little separation between?

Regards,
Dom

I have to agree to an extent with Dom here. Would be nice to see the model in a more relaxed pose.

Maybe he's about to be punished by a demanding music teacher.

LOL

I agree with above pose is too rigid. BUT i think the shot technicly is brlliant. Sepia type conversion is excellent. LIghting is great and im not to worried about lil shadows here and there. Also backing is great too.

It seems to me that the pose matches his expression.

I have to agree with Kenneth that the sheet music creates a distraction. The way this is set up, the lighting fades from bright on the model, away to the b/g, but then is picked up again by the music. Without it, this would be a much better picture. Teh shadows accentuate the facial features and musculature very well.

Welcome back to the forum, Rodney. Haven't heard from you in a while, and always find your work and your commentary interesting.
