Please repost a larger shot - all I'm seeing is a thumbnail.

Hi taliaben,

You've done very well to capture the motion in this shot. Birds in flight are hard to do...

Unfortunately, the gull's a little too close to the top of the frame, and there's not too much you can do about that, apart from reshoot (unless this is a crop, in which case I would recrop it with a bit more space above the gull). Also, the horizon isn't quite horizontal, but that could be fixed in photoshop quite easily by rotating the image.

Finally, you've had the usual problem shooting birds that have white on them... the white parts on the gull are slightly blown out. Again, you might be able to fix them in photoshop CS2...

If you have a 'spot metering' mode on your camera, this is particularly useful when photographing birds in order that the bird is properly exposed. With white birds this will also mean that your shutter speed will likely be slightly faster than otherwise, giving you a bit of an advantage on getting more sharpness.

This shot shows a lot of promise, and I reckon next time you go and shoot you can come home with an even better one.

Best wishes,

-Ben

Thanks for your comment. I will try and play around a bit with Photoshop and see what I come up with - perhaps some cloning to add sky might do the trick in addition to your other suggestions.
