After seeing a recent post (I forget whose it was now, ?Kenmck) that was taken of a leaf lying on the grass in a park, and being quite impressed with the simplicity and impact of the shot, I thought I would try it out myself. Not very original I know, but just an exercise in my learning that's all.

I haven't done half so well as the originators post. However, by attempting to replicate some of the great shots posted on here gives me a hint at what goes into making these seemingly simple yet effective shots. My mistakes and failings inspire me to continue pushing forward. My admiration grows meanwhile for those that carry these shots off so well.

Regards,

Syd

Nice sharp image Syd.

I wonder if it wouldn't benefit from a wider crop to get more depth and emphasise the 'lone leaf' on a sea of grass perspective? At the moment it, to me at least, its all a little too focused on the leaf? Don't know if that makes sense and to be honest I don't really know what I'm talking about :G

Syd,

I'm with you there on trying out stuff that I see and like. Best way to learn in my opinion. I remember Kenmck15's hot, and he had a lot wider composition not as focused on the leaf as this is, as Steve eluded to. I do like the picture of your leaf though, very nice and sharp. Interesting texture.

LT

P/S -Syd nice job on your Self portrait series. I like your Avatar shot very much.

Hey Syd,

I tried a leaf shot like this after inspiration from Dustin - he posted this really nice shot using a powershot I think? So I had a go with my 350d and guess what? It was rubbish...

So yours is cool... i think maybe a little wider like SteveDak mentioned just to show a little depth - but itsa sharp shot!
