Steve, for one that has a pickled brain and doesn't know anything about portraiture and "has no interest in photography", you really have done a fantastic job here.

Nicely composed and sharp.

"I'm surprised..... It's good"

Da.... err . . . Syd

Oh!

Such a nice shot...

So relaxed! I love it... would be nice if this shot was used for a painting!

Perfect lighting!

Too many blown highlights on the dog's fur. When the highlights cannot be controled, it is best to compensate for the highlights and pull up the exposure in post to hold all the detail.

Best regards,
Rodney Blair

A real shame about the blowouts but having said that... the dog's expression completed captured my focal interest and I missed them initially. So... faults in technique aside... having achieved the goal of invoking a powerful emotional response within this viewer...KUDOs

P.S. Is this the calm after the storm? Is this forum returning to norm?

i am new to this picture-taking thing and i don't understand what you mean by post.

What's that they say about dogs taking on the traits of their masters? Or was it the other way around?

Great picture Steve - he looks very serene at first glance, but you're right about being alert - his eyes are full of awareness. Classic SA guard dog behaviour I guess! :-)
