This was taken a few weeks ago. The light was coming in from a window.

Hey Matthew,

I really like this shot. The light coming down on the Bible sets it off

I think the book in the forground is a little distracting. Maybe a touch of USM would bring out the boy's details a bit more

Hello Matthew,

Overall this is a nice capture. How good it is depends on what your intent was. If this is a portrait then a little more thought should go into planning the shot. For a candid, you did very good at capturing the moment.

A good photographer must learn how to develop his images. Film photographers must develop their film and digital photographers must develop their digital files. You don't necessarily need to alter an image, but you do want to bring out all the detail you possibly can.

The color balance is off and this high contrast scene needs more contrast. It also would not hurt to clone out the objects behind your subject. Dark elements are the attention getters in this scene so I do not find the open book to be a distraction. It is an unnecessary element that does not add anything to the composition, however.

Thank you for sharing.

I think this image makes a much better b&w than it does color.

I agree the B&W looks a lot better in this composition. Great edit!
