No not that bad. The first has good ideas and the composition isn't too bad but too many elements in the back ground which are distracting. However this could be a good shot for a black&white conversion with some blur to add more dof to the back ground areas.

The second is fairly ordinairy unfortunately for me. I get what you were getting at when taking the shot but it doesn't impact the way it should. Maybe less trees and land or none at all, but tis hard to give it that look of "this is huge" without some sort of comparitiveness that the land can give.

There are a few other points but I am sure someone else will tell you.

Good luck with the shooting, your off to a good start.

A bit of a crop of the sky would be better but this is could have been better shot on a tripod and a bit higher iso. Seems a bit dark but it may be what you are after here to depict your title of this capture.
