I agree with Ken and feel the sepia toned version achieves the mood better than the original color version. The sepia version also exploits the highlights on her hair more so than the original.

Thank you for sharing.

I think this has the makings for an awesome photo but the cropping seems wrong and doesn't seem to quite work.-- Terry

I dont know, I kinda like the crop. just took the photo as I felt it suited, there was slightly more space to her left before this crop.

If you shoot wide, you can pick any type of crop afterward.

I would have shot the entire girl and left 25-30 percent extra frame around her, then picked a couple of different crops after (having shot RAW format first, of course).

Actually Terry, i have to disagree with you. I think that this Crop works very well for the picture.

I do agree that you should shoot RAW, which would give extreme flexability on editing later including picture size.

The sepia tone works very well, and the brightness of the girls dress makes her stand out, making her the focal point of the shot.

Excellent Shot!!!!

The conversion of the original into sepia does much more for this photo than the orginal in color.

You started out with an excellent shot and made it even better. This girl is beautiful and her expression is priceless.

Shooting wide crop later is good advice for those that have plenty of room to crop their shots and do that on a regular basis but I prefer to try and get the shot straight out and learn to improve on my composition.

Shoot raw, jpeg is a matter of preference to the user.

I guess I did not have a lot of time to think, this was a candid shot as the child turned around (I had been photographing birds nearby). I had a big lens on and just pointed it her direction as her mother called her, child was far enough away not to notice me turn more towards her. i never caught up with them so dont even know who they are, this is the only shot taken so Im happy with how it turned out.

Candid shots, even though are quick, and you don't have a lot of time to change settings, or concentrate on focal length, or aperture, usually turn out great. Photographic instinct takes over. Sometimes without knowing it, your brain will take over, and in a split second it will have decided how to take the picture. This is one candid shot that looks amazing.

Very nice portrait. The candid unposed look is excellent, and I like the sepia too.
