Ive been working at improving my portrait shots for some time now. Still don't have it down as well as I might like but am posting a few for critique and any opinions on improvement or are they Ok as is?




looking to try and get the older style of color

This is a lovely shot. My feeling about things like "vintage colors" is that they tend to draw attention away from the subject and onto the artist. You have captured the old colors effect -- this reminds me of some work my father did back in the early '50s with colorizing portraits. But, even back then -- when color was still a novelty -- the effect was too invasive to really work much. ISTM that you'd have to have a very specific set of circumstances to make reviving it seem like anything other than a gimmic.

I like this shot alot. The only thing I would change is mabe cropping it a tad more from the bottom and left.

The post work looks great, but it really doesn't matter what we think...I bet mom and dad love it.

your trade mark pencil thing DOF does seem to work better here. It could bethe old worldly feel to the photographic style.

How did you make this image... would be very interested.

The vintage shot was just done with change of hue and saturation, here is the original photo
