Having just bought my Pentax DL2 here are a couple of shots I have taken, then darkened the outside to make suitable for PC wallpaper and because I think it makes them more serene/mysterious/modern.

Any comments are welcome

I really like that darkening. What did you use to do that?

Just to confuse you I have to take the opposite opinion and say that the spotlight effect really detracts from your images. I like to see background, and black is frankly rather boring. Unless your old background were really un-interesting I would keep them in favor of flat black (excuse me if none share my opinion). The kicker is that the render effects spotlight messes your lightness values, with only a thin band of the image as it should be, again excuse me if some people like this. Overlooking that your pictures look good and I think something could come of them,
Thanks for Sharing,
The Shrimp

I just used the render effect in Photoshop. I will post them without the black when I get back from work so people can judge the difference... :-)

I would say in the first shot the black doesnt make the white flower seem bright and vibrant as you may think it would with such contrast.

The second one feels like I can't see enough, almost frustrating, but I quite like it at the same time.
