Default How to enter a photo for POTD Consideration

This question comes up on a regular basis, so we decided to create a new Sticky Thread about it.

If you want to Enter a photo for POTD consideration, you'll see an Enter menu choice on the left side of Steve's POTD page here:

Also note that the "crop box" you see when you submit a photo is only designed to let you decide how it will show up in the upper right hand corner on the main page at http://www.steves-digicams.com if it's selected for Photo of the Day, since the space allocated for it on the main page doesn't allow for much flexibility as far as aspect ratios (the ratio of width to height).

If it's selected and someone clicks on the cropped version on the main page (using the crop you select when you submit the image), it takes you to Steve's POTD page showing an uncropped version with the original aspect ratio.

In other words, please don't worry about cropping images to fit the crop box dimensions you'll see when submitting a photo.

Our site will automatically resize submitted images to fit the POTD page using the original aspect ratio (ratio of width to height), where readers will see an uncropped version of an image if it's selected for POTD when they click on the smaller cropped version from the main page.

Default Today's photo

I believe that today's "Photo of The Day" is bogus. It most likely came from a video game. The aircraft is way too high for the approach to St. Maarten and the position of the photographer does not exist unless he was in a helicopter. Just thought you might like to know.

It's quite common to see that perspective on planes when the photos are taken from the North side of Mahu beach.

For example, you'll see a photo near the bottom right of this page where the plane appears to be even higher.

If you use Google to search for images of planes coming into Princess Juliana International Airport, you'll find lots more with similar perspectives when taken from the North Side. Most photos taken from the other direction show them appearing to be lower.

Jim, may I suggest a modification to the rules for "Picture of the Day"? Why not open it to everyone with the stipulation that no prizes will be delivered outside of the USA?

Hey TonySx:

Submissions to Steve's POTD from outside of US jurisdictions can be considered for round 1 of the contest (publication on Steves POTD and home pages), but not round 2 of the contest (to win prizes, due to legal and cost reasons).

Please keep in mind that regulations for different countries may require that products conform to certain safety and power requirements, as well as account for regional differences in cables and documentation included, warranty service and more. So we are unable to award prizes to entrants outside of the U.S. where we are located.

Restrictions aside, we welcome participation from readers located from outside of the U.S., as you can see from the photos published in our Photo of the Day Contest Forum.

So, please feel free to submit photos to Steve's POTD.

Thank you so much for this explanation! This very issue has kept me from submitting an entry for a very long time.
