So I tried pressing different combinations of buttons on the printer and success.

Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds, a message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.

Thats it turned my printer back on and all works fine again.

I hope this helps R300 owners out! :|
I know its been years since you posted this tip but I am glad I found it. Apart from the fact my printer made a really loud awful noise, your tip did work and I can now use my printer for another couple of years (I hope)
