I own a Canon Pixma Ip4200 in Australia and have been spending a lot of money buying replacement canon cartridges in Australia i.e. PGI-5Bk - black ink tank, CLI-8C/M/Y/Bk- individual ink tanks

I am currently in Japan on business and noticed Pixus ip4200 model cartridges BCI-7eC/7eM/7eY/7eBK/BCI-9BK. Prices are extremely cheap in Japan, about 1/3 of the price in Australia. Can I use these Japan cartridges in my IP 4200 in Australia.

I have a copy of the Canon Ip4200 service manual and it says that the ink tanks for the japanese models are not compatible with those for non-Japanese models. However I have also read some other places which suggest if I change the destination to Japan using the "service mode" then all should be OK with using Japan cartridges.

Before I go and buy heaps of this does anyone know the real situation i.e. will they work straight out of the boxin my IP4200 in Australiaor alternativelywhat do I need to do.

Thanks a lot for your help
