Default Canon i950 driver custom print qaulity settings

When I go to printer prefrences for my Canon i950 and select custom print qaulity for photo paper pro A4 the slider is set on 2 by default and 1 is also available for selection. When 2 is selected the word high appears but if you select 1 nothing appears. Do the numers 2 & 1 refer to the DPI, if they do refer DPI does anyone know what DPI these are (does 2 & 1=4800 DPI or 2=2400 & 1=4800 DPI)?

As this is for me an old question without answer, I decided to do some testing...
- noise from printer is different, sounds like more passes are done at quality 1 than at quality 2
- I can't see any difference in the result with naked eyes
- using a microscope (not a serious one - it's a toy - but that's enough to examine prints!) it seems that the placement of droplets is more precise. A printing mode useless for photos and useful for graphic ?
