Default Newbie printer help Epson c80

I have an Epson c80 printer and just getting into printing didgital images. I was trying to print a black and white image, and it kept on comming out with a red tint, not black and white. Anybody able to print high quality B&W on this printer? Can anyone recommend a moderately priced printer that does both color and B&W equally well?

Thanks, Jimmy

I have the C82 as my document printer, so I know what you are going through. I tried to get photos out of it, and it does ok, but not as good as my photo printer (Canon I9100).

For the image, have it as a black and white photo. Then, in the print driver find the setting for GreyScale (Black Ink Only on the C82). Select this option. This will tell the printer to use just the black ink. Otherwise, the printer is going to "mix" the colors to make the black and white image. This should take the red tint out and still give you a respectable image.

For the C80, I would stay with Epson papers too. My C82 makes really nice prints on the Enhanced Matte paper and the Heavy Weight Matte paper. I know matte papers are not for everyone, but its worth a try. A b&w on matte looks good, at least to me.

I have read the Epson C84 is good, along with the Canon I860. The HP 5550, 7150, and 7350 are good to, if you can still find them. The C84 and I860 are 4 color, separate tank printers. They are all-around printers like the C80 and C82. The HP's can go 6 color, but you have to change out a cartridge to make them do that.

I would try selecting the "Black Ink Only" option before looking for a new printer, as you do have a good all-around printer now.

Hope this helps you out.
