Default Gateway LCD/Canon S900 Color Matching?

Hello again: I have a new Gateway computer/18" LCD monitor and just opened my S900 Canon printer. I use Photoshop 6.0 for manipulating digital photos, often printing right from there. When I outputted the first photo, the printed blues were noticeably muted in comparison with what is viewed onscreen. My older 17" CRT monitor seemed to color match my (now defunct) Epson Photo 870 printer pretty well. I went into both the color management properties of Photoshop and the Canon software and quickly realized I was in over my head. Is there a procedure for matching printed colors with what I see on screen? Secondly, is it simple enough that a somewhat dimwitted individual from northern MN can do it? Thanks to all. Gary Tuthill
