I have a Canon Pixma 4000 that I bought right after they came out. Before it even got through the original ink, I started noticing white streaks in photos that I printed, usually if I printed more than 2 in a row.

Then the problem showed up in printing text.

It will even split a line in half. Like the paper is advancing to far. Sometime it is very consistant. Using Canon glossy photo paper, the streaks appear about 1 inch apart. In text, it is more like 3 inches apart.

It happens from the cassette or sheetfeed, and duplex or not.

I called Canon, they had me try all the stuff I had tried, then told me to take it in for service. The service guy tried to tell me it was print drivers, then it started happening to him.
He finally said it was some kind of optical paper sensor that had gotten dirty. He also replaced the print head since it was under warrenty.

This fixed it for about 2 weeks. The printer is doing it again.

Any thoughts?
