Default HP5550 or HP7x50, can you store partially used photo cart..

When using the HP5550 or 7x50 that uses for example the 56, 57, 58 cartridges with the 58 being the photo cartridge that goes inplace of the black when printing photos... I have the following question.

If I use the photo cartridge for a few photos then go back to inserting the black cartridge, can I successfully store the now opened photo cartridge (58) until the next use (maybe weeks in the future)?

If so, what the best storage method for an opend HP cartridge?
Place in a small ziplock bag? Wrap in Saran wrap?
Do you dare tape over the head? ???

(PS. Still trying to decide between the HP5550 and the Canon S820)

I have the HP 7550 and it has a slot for each of the 3 cartridges. I believe the 5550, 7150, & 7350 all come with a small container to store an open cartridge in while you printer with the other.

I realize this is an old post, but it was never fully answered. I just thought people might like to know.

The photo cartidge comes with a clipon rubber seal. I have used this cartrgide off and on. sometimes leaving it out of the printer for weeks. The cartrige is now about 4 months old, and I have had no problems.

I have only one problem with this printer. With pictures taken by my Oly D-370, it has serious dot gain on certain shades of blue. Reds also come out a little unsaturated. Otherwise, a great printer for the price.
