Sorry for poor description but want i require is the following.At out local photo shop you enter the cd or usb stick which has the photos into the machine,you can then view the photos on the screen but there is a box on the screen also and your photo is floating behind it.
Basically you move your photo around so when you are happy with what you see within the box the software will then capture what is within it.
The box can be resized,i think you can set the box to lets say 640 x 480 knowing that your photo is bigger but you wish to capture a smaller part of it.
I use photo shop elements 7 but cant see anywhere if this software has it withing.
Failing that does anybody know of a free/shareware tool that will help me out.

I am not sure about whether Elements has this feature or not. I use Photoimpact, and can set the selection box to a fixed size and make it repositionable,which will do what you are asking. There may be options in Elements to do it as well.
