When I use file browsing to view my photos, does this have any effect on the photos. I do not edit my photos. I shoot my phoyos in high JPG quality. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0. I have a Canon Rebel XT. I am trying to treat my photos as negatives. Thats my goal.

As long as you don't "Save" an image from the file browser you won't affect the images. Saving a JPG will recompress it, which you generally want to avoid. "Save as" in an uncompressed format like TIFF and you keep the original and don't get additional compression artifacts in the save.
