Default Calibrate ?

I feel that I need to calibrate my monitor and printer to match each other.
What I see on screen does not print out.At this point my prints are lighter that what is on screen.

Epson RX580
KDS Avitron AV-7TF

I know nothing about profiles and what needs what.I know I can set one for my monitor and one in Photoshop.I just don't know what.
As far as how I have my monitor settings, I just go by what I feel is good on my eyes.
I am sure none of these match right so colors I see are not what they really are and notice that when I print.Scans print fine but for the most part, creations and touch ups are being affected.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Much of the answer depends on what method you are using to print.
With Epson printers, if you print using the Color Controls tab of the printer driver, you could try changing the printer gamma. The default setting is gamma 1.8, so if your prints are too light, you should try setting it to 2.2, or if prints are dark, set to 1.5 (unless I got that backwards) . If the gamma adjustment works, and you get acceptable prints, you can change the default setting from the either Control Panel, or by clicking on the printer icon in your taskbar.

Turns out my monitor was going out.
Brightness and contrast were at 100%
I got a new monitor and things are much better. Not exact but very close.Close enough.
