I've decided to trade in my old Epson Photo Stylus 830 and would be very grateful for some advice.
I am using a Sony DSC V1 5MP compact (Although I'm hoping, after some saving, for an Olympus C-8080, but printer first I think) at present, nearly exclusively for landscape photography.
I'm thinking of buying an Epson R800, but may consider the R300, is the print quality difference that great? I'm not that bothered by the claim of very long lasting inks on the R800(I've heard 80 years or so), as obviously a reprint after a few years isn't going to break the bank, I just want a (Big) improvement on my current printer, which seems to lack definition, especially on rocks and grass, and seems to darken the images.
Also, what does anyone think of using compatible inks with these two printers, I've had results similar to those on Epson own inks with my current printer using one compatible ink in particular.
Many thanks.

I've had nothing but trouble with the R300. The worst thing is it's not my printer. A friend asked me to recommend a photo printer to them against my advice that they are expensive to run.

Software and drivers are cr*p. Print quality is far better than I expect. When printed on premimum quality paper it beats stuff from the shops. However, what your wallet diminsh on the screen as the 6 individual ink cartiridges fall rapidly in level.

I'm still tempted to return the printer to the shop for my friend because of software issues.
