You will need to use an embedded controller (like a PIC) and write assembler or c code to communicate to the camera using the LANC port. I have built several for my own projects which also switches power to a bulltet camera, but it is probable cheaper to get them from places like www.helmetcamera.com because you will spend a lot more just buying software and having custom pc boards made for this project.

I have the sony DCR-PC330 which can take video and good enough still photos (3.1 Megapixels). I have this is in paraglidinghelmet and is using the CamEye II lanc controller to control the video camera. It switches it on and off ,standby ,record with a nice led that shows you in which mode you are, when battery is flat etc. All very nice but you can't take a photo. When the sony is in video mode, by pressing the photo button on the side of the camera mode it will take a picture (still) and store it onto the memo stick. I want to know if I can do it through the/any lanc controller ? Do you now if sucha controller exists for helmets ?If not, I would say there is a market for it as i have not found such a controller and i am sure I am not the only one that also want to take some normal pictures with the video camera? Help anyone ?
