Food for thought.

Yes, there are faults with the little Rollei 5100. But it's still a great 'pocket' camera with a hard-to-find 28mm wide angle lens.

These pix are NOT from a pocket camera. I found I needed a 'long' telephoto which short of going to SLR digital you just can't find - except with the Kodak 6490 (which I just bought discounted for GB£149) or the new higher spec more expensivemodel. Both however feature the superb Schneider 38-380mm lens. Tack on 3X digital zoom and the result is a loooong lens. 38, 380 and 380 + 3X digital pix follow.

4M pixels is the top quality. These were taken inthe 3:2 format optionwhich has just slightly less pixels resolution.

Flash is excellent. And there is a connector socket to attach a lead from an externalflash. This fires with all shots so you have total light control in studio conditions.

You couldn't even buy a 380mm (never mind a 1000mm) SLRlens (for ten times) the money this 4" square camera costs, yet it brings home the bacon thanks to the Schneider lens.

Both the Ricoh/ Rollei and the 6490give youcompact pocket performance andextreme telephoto power at a great price.
