The R3 seemed like the perfect compact camera when it was launched, unfortunately the image quality is very bad. Now Ricoh have launched the R30, which as far as I can see is exactly the same camera as the R3 except for the zoom.

Does anyone know if they managed to improve the image quality with the R30, if they didn't I don't see the point of that camera.

The R30 has no VR and less optical zoom, the image quality is the same as the R3, I think the R30 is for some one who doesn't need the 7x zoom and willing to pay less.

The quality of the R3 is not bat at all after the firmware updates, the only drawback is the LCD quality, but the new R4 has a good LCD.

I bought my R3 in Hong Kong two months ago since no store in U.S. carries the Ricoh DC. I like it very much compare to the Fuji S9000 I bought 6 months ago.

Take a look at the R4 - much less noise than the R3 apparently
