I hadn't noticed the subtle differences between the different color squares that illustrate the stock status. Ah well.

Truth be told, I think I'll stick it out for another week or so, and if the information on this camera remains so secretive, I may just opt for the T500. Yeah, the zoom length is a concession, but the video quality I've seen has been great.

Just browsed through a few reviews of the T500, but apart from losing the zoom length, I also noticed that the stereo microphones for recording video are placed directly next to eachother as opposed to both sides of the camera with the WB500 meaning that the recorded stereo sound won't be as distinctively noticable I'm thinking. And to be honest I've already had instances where I felt that I wished the WB500 had a little more zoom then 10X, although it has been sufficient 95% of the times I tried to take a long distance shot.

The docking station is very nice though (although you are obliged to use it when connecting to a PC), as is HDMI output and I must admit it's smaller size makes is a little more portable then the WB500. But Memory Stick'ss*cks IMHO because they're WAY more expensive and aside from my PSP I don't have any other device which uses them as opposed to standard SDHC (for which I could also opt for Micro SD which would mean I could use it in my camera and even more other devices). No manual settings mode saddly and movies limited to 10 mins as opposed to 30 mins with the ability to pause and resume recording on the WB500.

All in all it has some goodthings going for itbut alsosome things dragging it down as can be read in the various reviews online...

For me the top 3 I decided upon were:
1 - WB500
2 - TZ5
3 - T500

Decide for yourself ofcourse as the T500 looks very nice and has quite a few things going for it.....

Information is still VERY low and even reviews are hard to find.

I tried being patient, but impatience got the best of me. I ordered the Sony T500, along with the memory and batteries needed - it might be here tomorrow.

The whole process of orderinga WB500from the German store which didn't take credit cards or paypal was just a bit too involved and drawn out for me.

Shame too - I had read through the manuals on the Samsung and all, and really liked the available features.

By changing to the Sony, I go from a 24-240 to a 38-190, so I get most of the good zoom range to me. The other features, particularly as they pertain to video are pretty much on par with the Samsung, notably the Stereo MP4 format. There are far fewer "novelty" features like novel color balances on the Sony, but I should be able to do many of these in production using Corel.

The TZ5 just involved a few too many sacrifices for me.

Of course, as is my luck...

Sony arrived today - I broke the seal, and the battery is still charging in the cradle, so I haven't even turned it on yet.

Got curious while awaitng the battery to charge, and of course, right at the perfect moment for this to happen, I find this...

Maybe I might have to look into the need for a SECOND replacement camera.

LOL, Guess I'm not the only one to which these kind of things happen to then

Perhaps you can somehow "break" the T500 and return it stating it arrived this way to get your money back. But I'm afraid if you really want the HZ10W you're going to have to sell the T500 again, or end up with 2 camera's.

If you bought the T500 from a cheap seller (cheaper then regular store price), perhaps you can try things like Ebay and see if you can sell it for the same ammount you bought it for and thus not losing any money on it... or something like that anyway.

I bought myself a replacement battery for the WB500 from Subtel for just €10
http://www.subtel.nl/cgi-bin/cosmosh...suche--slb-10a
Considering that an official replacement battery costs between €40 and €50, this was a real bargain. It works wonderfull, although it lasts just a little bit shorter then the official one. But for that price I'm not complaining

If you should somehow get a HZ10W then you can buy a replacement battery here too as they ship to the US for €6 shipping making the grand total just over 15 euroes.

LOL! Break my T500?!? I can't do that! I had my chance to play with it a bit on the way to and from work and am absolutely amazed with it!

I posted a sample rawclip of my usualstyle of shotat: http://www.btco.net/video/MAH00023.MP4

Keep in mind, it was really pretty cold and windy out today, and here I am trying out a camera I'd never held before with my carry bag over my shoulder. The shot in the clip was completely handheld without any pole or railing to help steady me. Still, the amountof swayseems tobe much more in check with thisSony than my oldCanon S1IS. Stereo separation is quite good as well. You'll hear someone kicking a display sign into place on my left, much more pronounced in the left channel.

That much said, the camera does indeed have a serious flaw in battery life, and this may wind up being the impetus to use this as a supplement to the HZ10W, which I nowsee available attwo online outlets! :-)

EDIT: Added more raw videos taken today from the Sony:

T500 is a nice camera (good video!) - I considered to buy, but I waited forWB500 - 33mm isn't "yellow of egg",

I hate memory sticks. Fixed lense is - but I would prefer underwater suited Lumix FT1 *)

A near small shop sold 9 of 10 WB500 (€219) within 3 days. :-)

I ordered my WB500 with amazon.

i had the t500 for about a month before selling it. the video was just fine in daylight but was extremely bad in low light and i have tried many different HD p&s's.....the kodak z1085is, canon tx1, kodak v1073, v1253, panasonic TZ5.

the canon and the t500 were the worst in low light. z1085is was the best because of the large 1/1.6" sensor with a f2.8 aperture. the panasonic lx3 is probably the best in low light for a p&s as its a f2.0 aperture which is amazing. but no stereo sound so a loss. only the canon and the kodak v1253 had stereo.

i liked the t500 but compared to the kodak z1085is it had a horrible shutter/flash recharge speed, the kodak was extremely fast and this was just horrible slow. maybe cuz im comparing it to something but still. the IQ was definitely not as good either, but i liked it simply cuz of the stereo sound.

i went ahead and purchased the hz10w, the video samples seem better on the hz10w and seem almost better then all of the ones above besides maybe the t500 and the z1085is which they were about the same (basing at most off the hockey video sample, as it shows the focus of zooming holding good and quality good.)

i am interested in the sony t900 though as its only 16mm and has the bionz image processor that the t500 left out - which would increase image quality - and i hope the awful battery life and flash recharge/shutter lag. i've also seen a few samples of the panasonic TZ7/ZS3 and left dissapointed which each one, the t500 and samsung def are btter - was quite blurry and not detailed in all the vdieos i've seen in daylight, etc.

i did like the t500 and the video quality was good - but when you got to low light, it just got quite bad. so we will see what happens with the wb500 and hopefully its a keeper its 14mm thicker than the t500 though (which is roughly 22mm) so that will be a change.

will ship monday, will have by the end of the week ($270 shipped) - and the hz15w coming out - no idea the difference besides the 12.1mp on the exact same sensor and lens - so i dont want that, and its its $330.
