I have just purchased a HD1a camera. I am looking for some software that will convert the MP4 video from the camera to AVI that will play on Windows Media Player. I tried MP4cam2AVI, but it did not work with Windows Media Player and I need it to also be compatable with Adobe Premiere Elements.
I want a format that can be sent to anyone and played on their windows medial player and have to download a Divx player. Any suggestions? Prefer something free or not too expensive. Thanks for you replies in advance. |

With MP4Cam2Avi you certainly can convert MP4 to Avi. However, you still have to install an MP4 Codec. FFDShow is the most efficient MP4 Codec. The simplest way to install this Codec is to install the CCCP codec pack, which you can get here:
http://www.cccp-project.net/ In doing so you can install also the Media Player Classic, which doesn't look as fancy as the Window Media Player, but is actually a much better media player. |

Install the FFDShow or Xvid or Dvix codec to make sense of MP4Cam2AVI output.
Load those converted files into the :Gfree Windows Movie Maker. You can save out those WMV files that play in most any up to date Windows Mediaplayer. Even trim them and dress them up with transitions, titles and music. *tip* In MP4Cam2AVI, select PCM audio for better audio. File will be larger, but you can trash it after you make the WMV clips. |

I used to use a little piece of software called Faasoft Video Converter to convert MP4 to AVI, happy with it.
