Can't comment on the HD1000 as I have the HD1010. But I can tell you I have not noticed any focus issues and I have shot hours and hours of video already. Quality is also amazing, it shoots at 1080i or 1080p although I prefer 720p at 60 frames per second as it seems much smoother. Low light performance is very good too I find compared to my old 8mm and DV cams. Only thing I don't like is the zoom feature.. you cannot zoom nice and slow in and out.. it is a rather fast or a very fast zoom. And the lens is not very wide angle but I fixed that by purchasing a fish-eye type lens.. but of course a hassle to mount and unmount that sucker.
